Karen L. Westbrooks, Ph.D., LPC
Dr. Karen Westbrooks is a licensed professional counselor who provides integrative treatment of complex trauma. Abuse, disability, homelessness, homicide and traumatic bereavement dominate and inform twenty-five years of clinical experience. A native St. Louisan, Karen earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education (Saint Louis University, 1990) and achieved the rank of professor with tenure in the Department of Counseling at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY.
As a scholar-practitioner, Dr. Westbrooks works tirelessly in the areas of community service and professional leadership. She is a former Board member of Rivendell Children’s Psychiatric Hospital (KY). She is past president of the Kentucky Association for Marriage & Family Therapy. And she has chapter contributions in texts considered the most authoritative in the cultural diversity industry. Two of her own titles, Overcoming Dysfunction (1994) and Oral Histories . . . A Study of Unconventional Strengths (2000), gained rapid acceptance world-wide and are translated into several languages.
